  1. Irish Heritage Exhibit: Erin's Exiled Children

    Erin’s Exiled Children: The Irish of America and the Making of Modern Ireland” is an exhibit that will be on display during the month of August on the first floor. It features a series of narrative panels created in honor of the centennial of Ireland’s Easter Rising in 1916. It documents the Irish struggle for independence and the role the Irish in America played in keeping their traditions alive. The University of Montana (UM), the Butte Silver-Bow Archives, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Friends of Irish Studies in the West, and The Gathering created the exhibit. Viewing is free and open to the public during normal library hours. The exhibit is part of our tribute to Irish heritage during August.

  3. What does an Ambassador do?

    Join Ambassador Jeannine Jackson, a Sheridan, Wyoming native, and her husband, Mark Jackson in a discussion on their military and Foreign Service careers. The pair will cover what diplomats do, why the work is important and the challenges and opportunities encountered in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The couple’s careers span more than 30 years with assignments in Germany, Korea, Gambia, Switzerland, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Kenya, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Iraq, Malawi and Washington D.C. President Bush nominated Jeanine as Ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2006 – 2009, the first ambassadorial nomination for a career diplomat from Wyoming. From 2009 -2011, she managed the world’s largest embassy in Baghdad, Iraq for which she received the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Honor Award while Mark oversaw 26 teams building governmental capacity in districts throughout Iraq. Jeanine served as U.S. Ambassador to Malawi from 2011-2014.
