Elephant and Piggie Visit the Library

April 6th at 10:30 am Community Room

Celebrate “The Week of the Young Child”, April 8th -12th at Billings Public Library with a special program featuring the costumed characters “Elephant & Piggie”.    “Elephant & Piggie” will be here along with a special guest who will be reading stories.  There will be a fun craft and free books will be given out to children in attendance.   This special event is being sponsored by the Billings Chapter of the Montana Association of the Education of Young Children.

Coloring Contest Celebrating Elephant & Piggie!

March 6th - April 6th

To celebrate our special visitors we will be holding a coloring contest.  Pick up your coloring page at the Children’s desk or here.   Return the coloring page to the Children’s Desk before 10:30 am on Saturday, April 6th and be entered into a drawing for a plush pig puppet and an Elephant & Piggie book! Must be present to win!

Celebrate National Poetry Month

Poetry Contest

March 18th - April 12th

Billings Public Library and The Friends of BPL invite you to celebrate National Poetry Month with us by participating in a poetry contest. 

  • The contest will be broken into three age groups: Children (age 0-12), Youth (age 13-19), Adults (age 20+) and three cash prizes will be awarded in each age group.  Each poet may submit up to three poems for consideration.  First Place in each group will receive $25.00, Second Place, $15.00 and Third Place, $10.00.
  • Winners will be announced on April 23rd. First place winners from each age group will get to read their winning poem at Poetry Night on Tuesday, April 30th, at 6:30 pm in the Community Room!  .

Submission Guidelines: Participants may submit up to three poems that have not been previously published, one poem per page. Include a title page, which must include the following: Name, Age, Phone Number, Address, and Poem Titles. Poems will be judged anonymously, so do not put name on the poems themselves; just on the title page.  Print your entry forms and turn everything in at the first floor Help Desk. You may also submit your entries electronically, here.
