Not only will there be cash prizes, but the top three poets will get some time in the spotlight by reading their winning submission at our Poetry Night on Tuesday, April 30th, at 6:30 pm in the Community Room! The Taoist Tai Chi arts exercise the entire physiology, including the tendons, joints, connective tissue and the internal organs. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing that allows movement, including grip-less, flat-soled shoes, and should be prepared to sign a waiver.

  5. Building a Place for Poultry in Montana: Harriette Cushman & Poultry Work in Montana

    March 21, 2019, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Community Room

    Amy McKinney, associate professor of history at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, discusses Harriette Cushman and her efforts to create a comprehensive poultry program in Montana. The first female poultry specialist in the United States, Cushman crossed many boundaries throughout her thirty-three-year career (1922-1955) with the Montana Extension Service. This program is presented in partnership with the Western Heritage Center.

  9. The Best of the 45th NW Filmmakers' Festival Tour

    March 23, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM @ Community Room

    The NW Film Center presents this short film collection each year, and we are pleased to have it back for its 5th year at Billings Public Library! Each year this independent film festival accepts entries from leading regional artists from Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, and Alaska. After the event, a curated selection of the best short films are sent on tour, and you get to see them at BPL. This year's tour features films from each represented state, including an entry From Parts Unknown movie still from Montana's Michael Workman. "From Parts Unknown" is a documentary about underground amateur wrestler Jesse "Madman" Manson, who finds himself having to make a decision about the sport that brought him self-expression but also multiple injuries. Workman's film received the festival Judge's Award for Stand Out Film.

Not only will there be cash prizes, but the top three poets will get some time in the spotlight by reading their winning submission at our Poetry Night on Tuesday, April 30th, at 6:30 pm in the Community Room! The contest will be broken into three age groups: Children (age 0-12), Youth (age 13-19), Adults (age 20+) and three cash prizes will be awarded in each age group. Each poet may submit up to three poems for consideration. First Place in each group will receive $25.00, Second Place, $15.00 and Third Place, $10.00. We will be accepting submissions starting March 18th through April 12th, and our winners will be announced on April 23rd.     Come and learn the basics of miniature painting and create your own epic adventurers and mythic beasts! Whether you are painting miniatures for Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer, or any other tabletop game, we have you covered. Paint, brushes, and instruction will be provided, although participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies and miniatures if they have any they want to work on. The first 10 participants who sign up will also receive a free, unpainted miniature of their own to paint and keep! Participants are not required to attend every Thursday in March, just as many sessions as the want in order to get a grasp of basic miniature painting. Call 657-8290 to sign up today!
