Bring Home a Learning Kit Today!

  • We circulate 5 types of Learning Kits - Try It Yourself (TIY), Big Moments, Citizen Science, Launchpads and Hooked on Phonics.
  • Kits are organized by theme and developed for children ages 3-12.
  • Each kit is filled with books, games, toys or scientific equipment, and activities to support your child's learning of important concepts.
  • A resource for parents, caregivers, and teachers to help make learning fun!
  • Kits are checked out in person from the Children's Desk with a library card.
  • Available for a 28 day load period with renewals.
  • One kit checked out per card.
  • Please return kits to the Children's Desk at Billings Public Library. Do not place them in the book drop or book lockers.
  • Kit User Agreement Form is filled out with each check out.

Try It Yourself (TIY) Kits

Through generous grants from the Friends of Billings Public Library and the Billings Public Library Foundation, kids and families will have the chance to explore STEAM components in a new way.

  • Children and families can enjoy hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM)
  • Each kit contains a unique collection of multi-media materials including books, DVDs, games, and models chosen to appeal to a variety of learning styles and ages.

Citizen Science Kits

What is citizen science? Citizen science is real scientific research done by people like you and me! 

  • Whether you are participating in squirrel watching, observing pollinators, visiting a State Park to study the relationship between milkweed and monarchs, or measuring light pollution, you can contribute!  
  • There are projects and resources to match a variety of interests, and Citizen Science is perfect for all ages and great for family activities.  No prior scientific knowledge is required, simply a willingness to learn and participate. 

Citizen Science Kits are available through generous donations from the Friends of Billings Public Library, the Billings Public Library Foundation, Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and Yellowstone Valley Audubon Society.

Big Moments Kits

Through generous grants from the Friends of Billings Public Library and the Billings Public Library Foundation, young children and their caregivers have a way to have meaningful, age-appropriate conversations about milestone moments.

  • Children and families will access to information and resources to tackle those big moments in a child's life.
  • Each kit contains a unique collection of multi-media materials including books, DVDs, games, and models chosen to appeal to a variety of learning styles and ages.
